Mindy Kaling’s Netflix Comedy Named, Signs On John McEnroe as Narrator | THR News

Mindy Kaling’s coming-of-age sitcom at Netflix finally has a name, and added a new star to the project! The comedy, called ‘Never Have I Ever,’ stars newcomer Maitreyi Ramakrishnan who plays Devi, a first-generation Indian American girl, and is inspired by Kaling’s own experiences growing up. In addition to revealing the sitcom’s title, Kaling also signed on tennis icon John McEnroe to serve as the narrator for the series. McEnroe announced the exciting news on NBC’s ‘Late Night With Seth Meyers’: ”So all the sudden, I get this call and eventually meet Mindy. She said, ‘Would you like to be the narrator of this series?’ and I say, ‘Are you kidding me?'” According to the sports legend, Kaling’s parents were a big reason why she wanted him on board for the project. “Her parents were big tennis fans, growing up in India. They used to watch me play way back when.” In the show, McEnroe will add a sentimental touch, as he is Devi’s late father’s idol. Kaling co-created the series with ‘Mindy Project’ writer-producer Lang Fisher; the duo will also executive produce and serve as showrunners. ‘Never Have I Ever’ has a 10-episode order and is set to premiere in 2020.
