Laughter is the Best Medicine

Tenho variações de humor. Será transtorno bipolar?

Bipolar disorder is so commented these days that when we meet someone with mood swings, we immediately say it can only be bipolar. Humor is malleable and inconstant
and this applies to all of us. As events or situations occur in our lives, our mood changes accordingly
and it is healthy to happen so as long as these mood swings are
proportionate to the situation. And this is one of the main
points where lies the difference of what can be considered a normal
or pathological mood variation. In pathological situations
people tend to react in an exaggerated and even incompatible
way with the events themselves. In general, people with bipolar
disorder have mood changes that can range from extreme unhappiness, when
they have a depressive episode, to an euphoric and super energetic
state, when they have a manic episode. But they can also go through
so-called hypomanic episodes, which are a milder form of mania. These states can last for weeks or even
months and are not just mood swings, resulting in serious
consequences in their lives, especially in relationships with others, in school or professional performance,
and in other important personal areas. Bipolar disorder does not always
manifest itself in the same way, in fact it divides into
different categories, according to the intensity of the symptoms: In type 1 there must have been at least one manic episode, with or
without depressive episodes. in type 2 patients present at least one
hypomanic episode, current or previous, and at least one depressive
episode, also current or previous. In cyclothymic disorder, the criteria for depressive or hypomanic
episodes are not met, but mild symptoms of the two are present at various times over at least two years. There is also substance / drug
induced bipolar disorder, bipolar disorder due to another
medical condition and finally another bipolar disorder when the criteria for no
specific bipolar disorder are not met. Each person will experience this
disorder differently, but there are more frequent symptoms that are
present in many of the cases. As symptoms associated
with mania we can find: exaggeratedly high self-esteem and an
unrealistic belief about their abilities, irritability, a higher level of energy, feeling euphoric, feeling
little need for sleep, losing coordination, making impulsive
decisions, spending too much money and laughing a lot, even in
situations that are not funny. And the most frequent
symptoms associated with depressive episodes are: feeling sad, emptiness, feeling a loss of interest
in practically all activities, lack of energy and concentration,
suicidal thoughts, difficulty in ordering thoughts, forgetfulness or even
neglects personal hygiene. But symptoms of both states
can occur simultaneously, which are called mixed episodes. Bipolar disorder is one of the
most common psychiatric illnesses and can affect anyone
regardless of age and sex Living with this disease is
not easy, but it is perfectly possible to find balance and stability. For this, the correct diagnosis and the appropriate treatment of the
specific case are very important.
